Experience the beauty of the southern Lake Michigan region through the eyes of artists painting in the open air. This exhibition features work by the Duneland Plein Air Painters, a welcoming community of artists who capture changing light, familiar landscapes, and fleeting moments throughout Northwest Indiana and Southwest Michigan.

The group’s story began when local artists Julie Kasniunas and Julia Holmaas attended a plein air paint-out in New Harmony, Indiana, and returned home inspired to create a similar opportunity in the area. As interest in painting outdoors grew, the group adopted the name Duneland Plein Air Painters in 2013. Its artists gather at beaches, dunes, woodlands, farms, towns, and gardens, supporting one another while responding to the beauty and unpredictability of painting outdoors.

Participating artists include Sandy Appleby, Deb Armstrong, Marcia Carson, Kris Cook, Dawn H. Duty, Sharon Goodall, Sandra Hass, Pat Herman, Kuhn Hong, Laura Krentz, CJ Lelek, Linda Monahan, Christine Newton, Nancy Petruska, Anita Phillips, Kirsten A. Renehan, Deborah Stipanovich, Margaret Sullivan, Ginny Takacs, Paula Wiese, Nicole Willbur, and Gail Woolever.

Join us for the opening reception at The Village Gallery on Sunday, September 13, at 2 p.m. The exhibition will remain on view through November 4, 2026. The opening reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
