Date: Sunday, April 8
Time: 1:30 p.m. - Meet The Artisit Reception
Exhibit: From Then to Zen - on exhibit through May 3
Northwest Indiana artist, Patti Shaffner, brings her multi-media talent to The Village Gallery. The new exhibit kicks off with a Meet the Artist Reception at 1:30 pm on Sunday, April 8. “From Then to Zen” spans her artistic journey from bold realism to the more abstract, non-representational nature of Zentangle®. Patti will give a gallery talk at the reception, which is free and open to the public.
Primarily a self-taught artist, Patti has been engaged in the arts, from music and theater to poetry and visual artistic expression since childhood. During the 1990’s, she reveled in creating large and dramatic portraits that focused often on one aspect of a face, lips or one eye, allowing the viewer to complete the portrait in their minds eye.
When life threw her into a difficult period she stumbled onto Zentangle®, the art of making patterns out of basic, deliberate strokes that build upon each other. Patti’s one of a kind pieces of art have taken her in a new direction in her creations. “When working, it is necessary for me to let go of preconceptions of perfection and symmetry. My focus becomes one of being present for each line I draw and allows it to be a meditative process and, as in mediation, not to judge what happens,” explains Patti.
In addition to creating art, Patti is also a certified Zentangle® teacher, singer/songwriter, teacher, craniosacral therapist, certified hypnotist and meditation leader and believer in “the fundamental goodness of life.”
