JUNE 10-JULY 15 THE VILLAGE ART GALLERY - Vibrant colors cover the walls of the Village Art Gallery with the solo exhibit of Indiana artist, Virginia Phillips. Influenced by Harriet Rex Smith and German Expressionist, Konrad Juestal, Virginia's works in oil of landscapes and still lifes reflect the main focus of color with varying degrees of abstraction. Virginia grew up in Chicago and in 1953 joined Marc T. Nielsen Interiors and later bought the design business and associated antique shop in Suman Valley, near Valparaiso, IN. July 28 - 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Senior Day at the Porter County Fair -Pines Village has lined up a fun-filled day for all persons 65 and older. Admittance is free and we have a full line up of activities and entertainment in the Buggy Wheel Pavilion. Transportation from the main gate to the Buggy Wheel Pavilion will be available and the Trolley will also tour the fairgrounds.

DESIGN - Environments for Aging is the 14th edition in a series of senior care design competitions cosponsored by Long-Term Living magazine, the Society for the Advancement of Gerontological Environments and The Center for Health Design. The rennovation and expansion of Pines Village is one of only two independent living communities featured and was included in the Honorable Mentions and Obstacles & Solutions Sections. The publication showcases the latest concepts in elder-friendly design and they tell how designers, facility owners and government regulators collaborated to realize them. The idea behind the DESIGN/EFA competition is not simply to showcase the elite; it is to open up the work of senior care design for all to see, evaluate and learn from.
