A collection of 20 stories and photographs of inspirational seniors
May 2003 marked the 20-year anniversary of Pines Village. We felt the occasion warranted a special memorial that would honor the remarkable individuals of our community and also promote the acceptance and understanding of older people in general.

This book is the result. The title is inspired by our mission: We Celebrate Life. What better way to present a positive image of seniors than through the remembrances of their lives? Storytelling has traditionally been a valuable means of passing down knowledge in society. The recollections are lessons in living.

In this respect, our book has already made an impact. We partnered with Kathleen Mullen and her students at Valparaiso University to write the biographies and stories. By their own accounts, the students "had a blast" interviewing their subjects. They were "super-lively." "They don't let their age get in the way of their attitude." The exploits of the residents were amazing, but it was the men and women themselves, in the richness of their old age, that made the greatest impression. One student said, "My experience reminded me never to sit on the sidelines. I hope to follow their example and enjoy my life to the fullest."

At Pines Village, we hope our work will help create an enlightened future where older adults enjoy the respect and honor they have earned.

Books are for sale and the profits are used to help support our Good Samaritan Fund.
