FAQ

What is an ElderStyle community?
An ElderStyle community offers older adults a network of community choices to live well.  There will be a referral network available to educate and link older adults to the support systems available in the community.

Where did the word ElderStyle come from?
We coined the word.  An elder is defined as “an older, influential member of a community.”  Paired with the word “style,” it describes a type of lifestyle that we want to make available for the elders of our community.

Why an ElderStyle community?
Research shows that to age successfully, the needs of the whole-person must be met: the physical, emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual, and vocational needs.  As our population ages, more people will require support services in these areas to enhance and sustain a high quality of life.  We are committed to establishing and coordinating a referral network of quality organizations and businesses to meet these needs for older adults.  We want Valparaiso to stand out as a community that is dedicated to providing an Elder – lifestyle, an ElderStyle community.

Who will establish and coordinate the ElderStyle community?
The VPRD and PVRC have formed a partnership to assess the Valparaiso community and establish and coordinate the referral network.

Who will be included in the referral network?
The network will be comprised of businesses and organizations that provide quality programs and services for older adults in the Valparaiso community.   It is not our intent to compete with providers, rather to introduce their programs and services to all older adults in the community.  Additionally, we will identify opportunities to expand programs and services.

How do I become part of the referral network?
In 2007, the VPRD and PVRC will begin to establish standards to evaluate programs and services.  Once those standards have been established, the network can be assembled. For more information, call 465-1591.

Who owns the Village Park Enrichment Center at Banta?
VPRD owns the center and is responsible for the maintenance of the buildings and grounds.  PVRC will manage the programs and events for members age 50+, the nutrition site age 60+, and community room rentals.

Who is the contact for the Village Park Enrichment Center at Banta?
